How’s his season gone?
Before lockdown, unbelievably. Won a record breaking six ranking titles and well and truly backed up his position as World Champion, World number one and the best snooker player on the planet. If truth be told, he’s been more than a notch up on everyone. Only blemish would be he’s played poorly in both Triple crowns this season, losing to Nigel Bond at the UK and Shaun Murphy in the Masters. Significantly, won the Gibraltar Open in March, behind closed doors/no crowd.
World Championship prospects?
Without doubt, the rightful favourite to win back-to-back Worlds and a seventh ranking event of the season which will take some beating in years to come. However, no first time champion has ever retained at the Crucible and as much as he’ll be prepared for the battle and give it a great shot, I question his form since the return. He was bang average at the Championship league and Tour Championship (only hit one ton in 29 frames won) and at the back of my head, wonder if he prefers a crowd to not having one. He’s been a great world champion this last 13 months (he’s ‘officially’ held it longer than any Crucible first time winner!) and if he does win, it will go down as one of the best achievements in the games history.
