I’ve always felt this format and event is absolutely tailor made for him. He’s not quite in John Higgins or Mark Selby’s granite club just yet, but he’s the next in line for a call up. He isn’t the deadliest of break builders and that’s where a lot of people think is a big weakness in his game. I’m not concerned.
Another player that he is similar to is Graeme Dott. Graeme isn’t a potent scorer and in that triumphant year of 2006, he only compiled one century. My man is much better in that department than Dott; he’s bagged 38 centuries this season which is good going and the 8th most made by any player this season.
His season has been plagued by near misses/losses. Few have questioned his bottle but for me, that’s a huge asset of his. If he has a clearance to make, he’s in the reliable bracket. He’s lost in eight ranking event deciders but generally has been consistent overall.
