Bournemouth to beat Sheffield United @1.91
Eddie Howes side have been given a kind draw for the first game of the season, home to Premier League newcomers Sheffield United. The Blades are favourites to go down with many experts believing that they haven’t added enough quality to their squad this summer. Bringing in players such as Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie who don’t have the best of track records for a combined fee of £30m seems to be a huge gamble. The Cherries meanwhile have that Premier League experience and will be looking to finish in the top 10 this season. They’ve strengthened well with the arrival of Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma, Lloyd Kelly, Jack Stacey, Harry Wilson and Philip Billing. Everything points towards a home win in this one.
Leicester City vs Wolves over 2.5 match goals @2.1
Both Brendan Rodgers and Nuno Espírito Santo will be full of high hopes going into this season. Both sides have added quality in the right areas to their already strong squads over the summer as they both look to challenge on the top six. In January both sides played out a thrilling seven goal thriller and with attaching quality in the likes of Jota, Jimenez, Vardy, Perez and many more on show this weekend, I am expecting goals.
Tottenham to beat Aston Villa and over 1.5 match goals @1.44
Newly promoted Villa have been somewhat surprisingly amongst the biggest spenders in England as they bid not only avoid a quick return to the Championship, but battle against the likes of Bournemouth, Leicester, Everton and Wolves for a top half finish.
However, it may take time for the fresh faces to settle in. The first few Premier League games are going to be a tough test for Dean Smith and his squad and it doesn’t get much tougher than Tottenham away. Spurs have looked sharp in pre-season, beating European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to lift the Audi Cup. They’ve added quality to their side in Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy NDombele and are set to push for a top four spot. I expect there to be a flurry of goals and for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to come out on top.
Watford to beat Brighton @1.91
The Hornets took the league by storm in the early stages of last season. A flying start saw them win all of their first four league fixtures and manager Javi Gracia will be hoping to replicate that this campaign. Watford have added well to their squad well this summer including a record deal for highly rated Senegal International winger Ismaila Sarr. They’ve also managed to keep a hold of all their key players including Abdoulaye Doucouré which will be a huge bonus going into the season.
Brighton meanwhile had a troublesome 2018/19 campaign. They spent good money last summer and a prosperous season was to be expected but positive results were far between and they only just managed to survive. A huge job is required to get them back challenging midtable in the Premier League and that is down to new manager Graham Potter who is inexperienced at this level. I believe that Brighton will struggle whilst in this transition period and Watford can exploit that.
Aguero, Salah & Aubameyang All to Score on the opening weekend of the EPL boosted to @6.5 with Paddy Power
This bet is more of a fun bet so please keep your stakes sensible. All three attackers had a phenomenal 2018/19 campaign with Aguero netting 21 times and Salah and Aubameyang netting 22 to share the golden boot with Mane. With proven goalscoring records, they will be looking to get on the score sheet as early on in the season as possible to kick start their tallies. Aguero’s City face West Ham United, a side he has scored 9 goals against in 15 games whilst Salah’s Liverpool come up against newly promoted Norwich at Anfield. Aubameyang’s Arsenal travel to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United. All three players are not facing a top six club.
