Angers vs Metz – Metz win or draw @ 1.67
I tipped Metz as having a bit about them this season after a solid summer of recruitment. They last featured in my predictions in week one when I backed them to avoid defeat at Strasbourg, which they did. Now they travel to an Angers side who are fresh off the back of a 6-0 drubbing from league leaders Lyon. Angers looked all at sea last week, they’re really lacking organisation through the spine of their team. Lyon dominated the play and picked them apart through the midfield which exposed a weak Angers defence.
Metz will be full of confidence after an incredible 3-0 win against Monaco, they’ll also take heart in seeing how easily Angers were carved open. I fancy Metz to gain at least another point here, maybe even sneak all three.
Montpellier vs Lyon – Lyon to win @ 2.0
So far, Lyon are proving myself and many others wrong. I thought they’d struggle having lost some of their star players in the summer, however here we are after two games with Lyon having won two, scored nine and conceded none. Moussa Dembele, Memphis Depay and Houssem Aouar were outrageously goo against Angers. It was a scintillating performance and arguably the perfect three points. Jason Denayer even broke the record for the most completed passes in Europe’s top five leagues, which goes to show just how dominant they were.
Montpellier have been a bit lacklustre so far, neither here nor there really. A lot of their hope for goals seems to be tasked to Andy Delort, if Lyon can keep him quiet then I see them walking away with their third straight win.
Nice vs Marseille – Nice daw no bet @ 2.1
It’s been a disastrous start for Marseille. Andre Vilas-Boas angrily led his players to thank the travelling support after a 0-0 draw at Nantes last time out. Something is clearly not right in the dressing room and it’s affecting things on the pitch. Marseille have failed to score a goal so far and have looked miles off the pace. Dario Benedetto skied a penalty when presented with a golden chance to get himself and his club off the mark.
It’s a stark contrast to Nice. Second in the league, two wins from two and a new takeover underway that could see them become a European powerhouse. Patrick Viera’s men have produced two really solid performances so far and have found a real cutting edge to their attack, something they really lacked last season. I fancy them to heap more misery on Marseille this weekend, the safety net of draw no bet at a price of 2.1 looks incredible.
Strasbourg vs Rennes – Rennes win @ 2.75
It’s 2/2 for Rennes so far, who’ve shown there is life after Ismaila Sarr. They beat the might PSG last week and they fully deserved to. They’ve become somewhat of a bogey team for the Parisians and the champions will be haunted by the performance of Eduardo Camavinga. The 16 year old lit up last weeks game and will already be under scrutiny from Europe’s elite after he ran the show last weekend. With M’Baye Niang relishing a more consistent central role too, I can see Rennes also making it 3/3 so far this campaign against a distinctly average Strasbourg team who’s focus may lie with their Europa League exploits.
Amiens vs Nantes – Both teams to score @ 2.1
Amiens managed an unexpected win over Lille after losing out to Nice on the opening day. They’ve looked like a tight knit unit and they’ve got a bit about them going forward. Nantes have looked far from stable at the back but also have something to show going forward. I can’t see this one being a thriller but both sides have got more than enough in the tank to find the net.
