Weekend Dutch football tips: My five best bets – 24/08/2019

Heracles vs Vitesse – Vitesse to win @ 2.0

Vitesse are currently one of eight unbeaten sides in the league and sit joint top of the table with a number of others, having won two and drawn one of their first three matches.

Vitesse have gathered a real reputation for their incredible home performances, but they got their away campaign off to a good start with a solid 2-0 win against a decent Willem II side. They now travel to a Heracles side who’ve really struggled so far, taking just one point and scoring just one goal. Which doesn’t bode well for facing a Vitesse side who’ve kept back to back clean sheets.

Heracles only point came against a poor Sittard side away from home. In their two home matches they’ve been beaten 2-0 by PSV and trounced 4-0 by Heerenveen, I think 2.0 looks like a quality price for Vitesse to take all three points.

Heerenveen vs FC Twente – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals @ 2.0

Heerenveen followed up their opening day demolition of Heracles with an impressive performance against Feyenoord, a 1-1 draw that could’ve easily been so much more. A shock 2-0 defeat to Emmen came last week; a really bitter result given that they managed 19 shots on goal and forced eight corners. They were impressive going forward but they had an off day in front of goal, I expect Heerenveen to get back in to the groove here.

Twente remain unbeaten after they snatched a 3-3 draw against RKC Waalwijk last week, despite trailing 1-0 and 3-1. Twente have scored and conceded in every game so far and I expect that to continue here. Their games have also seen an average of four goals per game, an average only bettered by three Eredivisie sides.

PEC Zwolle vs Sparta Rotterdam – Sparta Rotterdam draw no bet @ 1.5

This is a meeting of two really contrasting teams. Sparta have taken to life in the top flight like a duck to water, they started off with a draw away at Feyenoord then two back to back wins against Venlo and Den Haag see them sitting pretty in fifth with only Ajax managing to outscore the newbies so far this season.

Zwolle have endured a horrendous start, only Den Haag have failed to gain a point besides Zwolle. They’ve shipped nine goals already; the joint highest in the league and have mustered up just two goals. An output that can only be beaten by Heracles. I really fancy Sparta to continue their incredible start against a Zwolle side who have been sapped of what little confidence they had going in to the new campaign.

FC Utrecht vs VVV Venlo – Utrecht -1 handicap @ 1.73

With so many sides starting the season well, it’s gone slightly unnoticed how well Utrecht have done. All the talk ahs been of Sparta and Twente, and we’re used to Utrecht being one of the more solid teams in the league. Wins of 4-2 and 3-1 were followed up with a point away at Feyenoord last week and I expect Utrecht to do some damage to VVV this weekend. Their two wins would have seen a -1 handicap win on both occasions and with Venlo shipping eight goals in their last two games I can see Utrecht really showing them up here. Venlo’s last away game saw them ripped apart by Sparta in a game that finished 4-1, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a similar score line here.

Willem II vs FC Emmen – Willem II to win @ 1.73

Emmen claimed a shock victory against Heerenveen last week as they found their scoring touch for the first time in a 2-0 victory. They were clinical when chances fell, but they were lucky to come up against such wasteful opponents. They travel to a Willem side who come in to this one off the back of a thrilling 3-2 win away at SIttard.

Willem have aspirations of tackling the six this season, their main competitors for that region of the table will likely be Vitesse and Utrecht. If they want to keep up, they need to kickstart their home campaign. With just one match played in front of their own fans – a loss to Vitesse, they’ll be keen to make a statement here against an Emmen side that, on paper, they should dispatch of with relative ease. Emmen were carved apart by Ajax in their one away game so far this season, I don’t see it being anything like that but Willem have that extra ounce of quality to see them through this one.
