The San Jose Earthquakes host FC Dallas on Saturday evening in a Western Conference clash. The Earthquakes sit in 8th position, just outside the play-offs. They’re currently three points behind Dallas but they have a game in hand on the Texan side. San Jose approach the game in good form as they’re unbeaten in their last three and have won three of their last five. It’s a whole different story for Dallas whose form has taken a hit in recent weeks as they have lost four of their last six MLS outings.
It was a 1-1 share of the spoils for the Earthquakes last time out as they secured a point away from home against DC United. They were unfortunate to not take three points after MLS veteran Chris Wondolowski gave them the lead before it was cancelled out in the second half by DC’s Lucho Acosta. FC Dallas put an end to a run of six games without a win in their last game as they picked up a 2-1 win at home over Seattle Sounders. Two own goals in the space of five first half minutes gifted Dallas victory and one they so desperately needed.
San Jose have had the better of the head to head record as they have won three of the last four meetings between the two franchises and they are unbeaten in the last five. The last meeting between the Earthquakes and FC Dallas came in April and it ended in a goalless draw at the Toyota Stadium.
The home side could be without Magnus Eriksson, the Swedish midfielder’s involvement is considered questionable as he recently suffered a concussion. The visitors will be without Santiago Mosquera as he is ruled out with a knee injury. They could also be without Reto Ziegler who is suffering from adductor tightness.
Matias Almeyda’s San Jose Earthquakes are having a superb run of form at home as they have won their last four on the bounce, scoring 12 goals in the process which is an impressive return. Given this recent success at Avaya Stadium and their dominance over FC Dallas in the head to head, I like the price of an Earthquakes win to make it five-in-a-row at home @ 1.95.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in six of the Earthquakes’ last seven games on home soil and the last time FC Dallas travelled to California to face the Earthquakes it ended in a 4-3 win for the hosts. FC Dallas’ game haven’t been short of goals recently either as over 2.5 goals has been successful in four of their last six games. It’s 1.57 for there to be three or more goals in Saturday’s meeting and that is looking like the most probable outcome.
Chris Wondolowski is in excellent form and the experienced forward has had an impressive start to the 2019 season having scored seven goals in 13 appearances so far. He scored in the Earthquake’s last game and he also recently broke the Major League Soccer all-time goal scoring record, you can back him to score again against FC Dallas @ 2.20.
San Jose Earthquakes to win @ 1.95
Over 2.5 goals @ 1.57
Chris Wondolowski to score anytime @ 2.20
