How to bet on Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Another popular bet in the world of football betting is the over/under goals markets. Most bookmakers set the benchmark for match goals at 2.5 and odds are set by how likely the outcome of goals are. In simple terms, this betting market allows the player to choose if there will be 3 goals or more, or less.
How do the odds on over/under goals work?
The odds-on goals will chop on change depending on the matchup between teams. If there is a strong favourite in the match result market then over 2.5 goals will be lower odds and under 2.5 will be higher. Whereas if there is an even match up then the over/under 2.5 goals market is likely to be closer in odds. Let’s have a look at an example of the goals market for the World Cup match between Argentina and Croatia match below.
Now these two sides didn’t score many goals in qualification for the tournament and are defensively sound. Croatia picked up a win in their opening fixture and so may set up to get a draw in this match and thus lowering the odds-on goals. So as shown on the market above, over 2.5 goals odds are 2.25 while under 2.5 goals is 1.61.

Alternative match goals
Although over/under 2.5 goals is the usual goal line offered by bookmakers but players can still bet on other goal markets such as over/under 0.5, 1.5 etc. Below is a diagram of how these types of bets work and how they win or lose depending on the outcome. On the left is the bet ‘Over Under’ and the following columns show whether the result is over or under depending on the goals scored.

Goal Line Betting
There is another way to bet on over/under goals and that’s through goal lines. They are very similar to the ordinary goal markets except the player has the option of a refund. Below is an example of a first half goal line bet on Bet365.

If the player decided to bet on over 1.0 goal line then the player would win the selection if there were 2 or more goals scored in the first half and would lose if there were less than 1 goal. However, this is where goal line is different, if there is just 1 goal scored in the first half, the player will get a refund. Below is a diagram showing the outcomes and what they mean in goal line betting.
