Two sides struggling for consistency meet in Serie A on Friday night where Fiorentina fans will be desperate to see their side break a spell of draws and get a win to close the gap to the top six.
Will there be goals?
This is a match up between two sides that have differed greatly in terms of goalscoring lately and over the course of the season. Cagliari have laboured recently, they’ve scored just four goals in their last six league fixtures which is sadly for them an all too familiar story. The Rossoblu have only managed to register 23 goals in the entirety of this campaign, which is just over half of their opponents tally in the same number of games.
Fiorentina have been involved in some thrilling games recently and they’ve seen a glut of goals, a 4-1 win against Spal in mid-February was followed by back to back 3-3 draws in the league and cup before a 3-1 defeat to Atalanta and a 1-1 draw last time out against Lazio led them to this point. Of many clubs in the league, Cagliari would definitely fancy their chances of scoring against Fiorentina’s vulnerable back line.
Fiorentina’s goal scoring has been bolstered after the addition of Luis Muriel in January, the fleet-footed Columbian has four in his last four outings and his blistering pace could be a real issue for Cagliari’s slow backline. Muriel is the favourite to find the net in this game at 2.75 anytime and 5.0 first.
It’s not all doom and gloom for Cagliari, they may have only scored 23 times this season but Leonardo Pavoletti has got 10 of those and his a potent finisher. Eight of those goals have come at home as well, so he could be great value for an anytime goal bet at 2.88.
Fiorentina’s attack will cause problems
Muriel has applied the finishing touch to a creative attacking unit since he signed for Viola. Federico Chiesa has been the man in the spotlight, the young sensation has lit up games this season, his pace and ability on the ball is up there with the best in the division and he’s already got the big European sides on high alert. His stunning hat trick in the 7-1 demolition of Roma was a real highlight and displayed just why there’s so much hype about the winger. Chiesa will play from the right, and the final member of Muriel’s entourage will be Gerson. The young Brazilian possesses wonderful ability, but has struggled to put that ability in to practice consistently enough. He’s on loan from Roma but Fiorentina are said to be keen on making his move permanent.
Fiorentina’s attack looks too strong for a creaking Cagliari defence, especially with Liverpool loanee Ragnar Klavan out injured. Dario Srna will start at right back which provides added attacking threat as well as superb dead ball ability, but at 36 years old I doubt the Croatian will have the legs to keep up with the blistering pace of the visitors front three.
Fiorentina are priced at 2.3 to score over 1.5 goals which looks like an excellent price given their recent goal scoring and Cagliari’s problematic defence.
Back Viola to get the result
Fiorentina just look too strong for this contest. Outside of Pavoletti; Cagliari lack a goal threat. Whereas the visitors have multiple sources of goals, even outside the front three, the quality of Marco Benassi and Edmilson Fernandes cannot be overlooked. If Fiorentina manage two goals in this match it looks doubtful that Cagliari will be able to match that. A comfortable Fiorentina win would be my choice. A win to nil at 4.0 is an outside shot, safer is a Fiorentina win and over 1.5 goals at a price of 3.0.
Luis Muriel to score anytime @ 2.75
