Will the Old Lady have success on their travels to Amsterdam or will Ajax’s youngsters prove too hot to handle for Massimiliano Allegri’s men? After a scintillating performance last time out in the Champions League by Cristiano Ronaldo, how will they fare heading to the Dutch Capital?
This tie promises to be a cracker! We all saw how Ajax were able to tear Real Madrid apart in their last 16 second leg clash, could more of the same happen again against a highly favoured Juventus side. Juventus will be keen to pile the pressure on and hopefully get a result to take back to Turin, where they’d be more than confident to see the tie out.
Juventus will obviously see travelling to the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the first leg as an advantage. Proving this by overturning a 2-0 defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano, with a Cristiano Ronaldo led 3-0 demolition of arguably one of the strongest clubs in the competition (Atletico Madrid). Further to this, I see them not wanting to go down that route again and looking to wrestle the tie into their hands in the first leg.
Ajax look to be in good stead regarding players at their disposal, as they have almost a full squad to pick from. After his recent man of the match performance vs Real Madrid in the last 16, Dusan Tadic looks to be the favoured player to lead the line.
A few players including Daley Blind will be treading a very fine line as they are one booking away from suspension, which obviously means missing a massive second leg in Turin.
Juventus on the other hand, will be hoping that star man Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit to start the first leg, the Turin outfit relied on him last time out in the Champions League as he bagged a hat trick.
Three big returns for Juve, come in the form of Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira & Brazlian flying wing-back Alex Sandro. The latter missing the match vs Atletico Madrid in the last 16 through suspension. With these three returning, we see Juventus massively bolstering their defensive options and with their firepower up top, they’ll feel confident of going to Amsterdam and getting a result.
Ajax v Juventus betting predictions
Recently, due to their massive lead at the top of Serie A, Juve have had the opportunity to rest key players and invest the time in their younger players such as Moise Kean & Rodrigo Bentancur. The obvious key advantage that Juventus will have will be around the freshness of their players, with Juventus key players only playing a handful of times in the last few weeks. Comparing that to Ajax, who are very much in a title race against PSV. This meaning that week in & week out, they have to perform to their highest ability, this late on in the season that can be a real telling factor.
With this in mind and the abilities of both teams, I’m confident that Juventus will want to go out and grab this tie by the scruff of the neck. After their struggles vs Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 clash, I think they will really want to stamp their authority on the tie.
I’m not saying by any means that Ajax will be a pushover for the Italian giants, they proved to be no whipping boys as they knocked out Real Madrid in the last round. I just feel that with the firepower that Juventus have at their disposal, they’ll really come out the blocks flying in this first leg clash.
